10 February 2022 - Quarterly groundwater monitoring
Groundwater monitoring results demonstrated mass removal by MPE and the in-situ biodegradation. Due to a low efficiency of the MPE system, the active remediation was stopped in November 2020. Quarterly groundwater monitoring was continued. The results showed further in-situ biodegradation of volatile chlorinated compounds reducing the contaminant spreading risks.
06 December 2019 - Extension of the multiphase extraction system
3 extraction wells are installed in december 2019 in the tankpark (near excavation zone, near loading area at well P465 and at small plume area) in order to improve MPE system
09 November 2019 - Remediation by multiphase extraction
In situ chemical oxidation stopped and the installation (ozone generator) and perozone injection system is removed. All zones are remediated by multiphase extraction lowering groundwater till 3 m-bgl in the period november 2018 - november 2019.
07 October 2019 -
The 15th groundwater monitoring is performed in October 2019.
08 November 2018 - Remediation by multiphase extraction and in-situ chemical oxidation
The loading zone at well P465 continued to be remediated by in-situ chemical oxidation using perozone. At the other zones (excavation zone, small plume and large plume at the tank park), remediation using multiphase extraction is executed by lowering groundwater till 1.8 m-gl in the periode of December 2017 - November 2018
08 December 2017 - Multiphase extraction test
The Life project proved that in-situ chemical oxidation is very effective in migration zones but not in source zones of the VOPAK site. Therefore, a multi-phase extraction test in the zones was performed between 13 July and 8 December 2017 to evaluate this technique. Contaminant mass concentration in the extracted air diminished from 175 ppm to 22 ppm (using PID detector 10.6 eV).
